5 Easy Copywriting Tips For Small Business Owners

Writing your own website content can be a daunting and time-consuming task. Some business owners nail it, but others struggle. There's only so much time in the day. I get it. When you're trying to run a business, content writing can often be the last thing on your mind.

I love writing words. I would do – I’m a copywriter! But I know it’s the idea of hell for some people.

I've listed five tips to help strengthen your writing, attract customers and make those all-important sales.

Replace complicated words with simple ones

You want customers to understand your product or service, not turn to a dictionary!

Split up long sentences

Lengthy text is challenging to read, so break up sentences to give each idea its own sentence.

Avoid acronyms or technical jargon

You may understand them, but your customers could be scratching their heads.

Edit, edit and edit again!

Ask a friend to read what you've written. Step away from your work and return to it later. Take a break, and you'll see your writing with fresh eyes.

Remove redundant words

Your writing will be crisper and easier to read.

Past experience – experience.

On a weekly basis - weekly. Much shorter.

Brand new - it’s just new.

When you have time, read through your website and action the points I've listed. It can be daunting to edit and write in large chunks, so set aside a few hours a week, and you'll see the difference.
